Future plans of “Saroyan House” project were presented to the mayor of Fresno
On February 23, 2018, in scopes of “Saroyan House” project of “Renaissance” cultural and intellectual foundation, Avag Simonyan, coordinator of the project, Merujan Minasyan, co-founder of “Storaket” architectural studio and member of the board of trustees of the project along with Barlow Der Mugrdechian, professor at the department of Armenian studies at the California State University in Fresno, had a meeting with Lee Brand, mayor of Fresno to present him the project. The latter, has welcomed the project and expressed his willingness to support it.
Future plans and the museum concept of the project were presented to the mayor, along with all its innovative and interactive solutions. After the opening, the house-museum that presents famous and not famous episodes of William Saroyan’s life will become one of the cultural and educational centers of Fresno. It was also emphasized that Saroyan was internationally acclaimed, and highlighting his personality is important not only for the Armenian diaspora, but also for the whole American society.
Opening ceremony of the museum is planned to take place on October 31, 2018, on 110th anniversary of the writer.
“Renaissance” cultural and intellectual foundation allocated some samples of “Holy Liturgy” by Makar Yekmalyan to Armenian National Library.
The book “Holy Liturgy” by Makar Yekmalyan, written for a three-voice male, four-voice male and four-voice mixed choir was first published in Leipzig in 1896. Almost 120 years later, with the blessing of the Etchmiadzin Monastery, the “Holy Liturgy” was re-published in accordance with modern notation standards, Latin transcriptions, musicological preface, analysis and their translations into English. This re-publishment of the book by “Renaissance” foundation had an aim of making this important ritual model of Armenian church accessible to the international community and the diaspora.
AGBU Young Professionals (YPs) with their project “Grqabats” and “Renaissance” cultural and intellectual foundation with their project “Hello, Saroyan…”, announced a start of a joint new project.
The project starts 3 months of reading and holding a series of theatrical plays dedicated to the 110th birthday of the internationally acclaimed, giant American literature figure of 20th century, William Saroyan.
During the launch event interactive discussions will be held, exclusive, not yet published videos of the writer’s personal and working life will be shown. The event will take place on February 3rd, 12:30, at Grqabats reading room.
