SUPPORT TO “HIGH FEST” INTERNATIONAL THEATRICAL FESTIVAL
This year, “Renaissance” cultural and intellectual foundation will be supporting “High Fest” international theatrical festival.
As Arthur Ghukasyan, president of “High Fest” international theatrical festival, stated: “Cultural field is in big need of supporters and sponsors. It is culture, along with education that makes one a man. Understanding the importance of all of these, it is pleasant for us that “Renaissance” foundation by supporting development of art is supporting people as well”.
Let us remind that “High Fest” festival is operating since 2003, starting from 2006 it is the main theatrical festival in all previous USSR (excluding Moscow).
On June 10, 2017, the Intellectual Renaissance Foundation organized the 9th meeting of the “Saroyan Club” within the framework of the Saroyan House Project.
A number of famous saroyanologists, literature experts, mass media representatives, foreign guests, as well as writer’s relatives and just Saroyan’s art lovers came together to discuss Saroyan’s works’ translation process.
Armenian Studies Program Coordinator, honorable guest Barlow Der Mugrdechian (University of California) was also invited.
The main topic of discussion was the translation, republishing of Saroyan’s works, as well as making famous those works, which are unknown among the wide range of the readers. The participants passionately discussed the above-mentioned topics, tried to put aside already translated works of the writer, and suggested their approach to the starting process of work. Like previous meetings, this one also didn’t take place without new discoveries about Saroyan’s life and works, which was another step to bring us closer to the recognition of the writer.
At the end of the meeting, the participants drew up the plans for the future projects and planned the upcoming actions, which would lead us to new Saroyan projects in firm steps.
On May 30, The Armenian Studies Faculty Professor Barlow Der Mugrdechian from California State University, and his students have visited the “Intellectual Renaissance” Foundation to learn about “Saroyan House” project. The “Saroyan House” Project team introduced the guests the activities of “Intellectual Renaissance” Foundation, told about the creation of the foundation and then turned to the “Saroyan House” project, to current and future plans as well. Together with Barlow Der Mugrdechian, foundation members discussed future cooperation between the “Intellectual Renaissance” Foundation and California State University. The students showed great interest and enthusiasm towards “Saroyan House” project and expressed willingness to support and participate in project activities both in Yerevan and in Fresno. The students were greatly impressed by the 108th-anniversary event of William Saroyan, which was held in Tumanyan Park. As to the “Saroyan House” project, the students were especially interested in the concept of the museum and the usage of innovative solutions parallel to traditional ones. The students raised the issue of visiting the museum and having possible research center for them, as there were some mentions in W. Saroyan’s will. Some of the students agreed to be involved in the project and with the help of their friends, raise awareness about the house-museum in the USA, share with us the public expectations of Saroyan lovers.
