The 2nd Professional Guilds Awards ceremony took place on April 16, where the documentary film “Tagh: The Path of the Soul” received the award for Best Cinematography of a Documentary Film.
The film’s cinematographer Artur Gharayan wrote:
“I remember with longing the difficult, cold, but warm days of filming… I congratulate and thank my cinematography team and the ‘Renaissance’ Foundation for their dedicated work. I congratulate Vahe Yan and Vahe Begoyan.”
The film “Tagh: The Path of the Soul”, created by the Renaissance Foundation, is based on the works of the medieval Armenian mystic and poet Grigor Narekatsi. The documentary was also screened at the Cultural Constellation of the CIS Countries festival, where it received a warm response from audiences.
Directed by Vahe Yan, the film is based on Narekatsi’s poetry and features five of his poems, along with two additional medieval texts: “The Virgin Mary Towards the Cross” and “Mary Magdalene.”
The documentary was filmed in seven symbolic Armenian churches, rarely visited yet remarkable monuments of medieval architecture, including Hnevank, Saint Minas of Kaputni, Geghard Monastery, and Sanahin Monastery. The film also includes archival footage of the liberation of Shushi on May 9, 1992.
The seven poems featured in the film are performed by well-known Armenian actors. The musical pieces are performed by Tigran Nersisyan, Nelly Kheranyan, Shant Hovhannisyan, Nazeni Hovhannisyan, Khoren Levonyan, Marjan Avetisyan, Rozi Avetisova, and Samvel Topalyan.
The general producer of the film is Artur Janibekyan. The film is directed by Vahe Yan, with music co-written and performed by Vahe Begoyan. The original concept for the project was developed by Artak Aleksanyan.
